Serendipity [ser-uhn-dip-i-tee] noun
The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident

That sums up this cacao for us. Our supplier sent us the wrong cacao by mistake, so naturally, we tested it. And it was really rather special. The universe had just dropped a new and delightful cacao in our laps, very unexpectedly. Serendipity Ceremonial Cacao was born!

Product Info

This ceremonial cacao has a lighter and more fruity flavour than our Virgin Ceremonial Cacao, in part due to a longer fermentation stage. The flavour isn't as strong as our Virgin cacao and many people when reviewing it say it feels lighter and less intense.

FAQ

Each of our three ceremonial cacaos is a distinct variety with its own flavour and character.

Virgin is rich, smooth and deeply grounding, our original, and still a firm favourite.

Serendipity is lighter, creamier and fruitier, softer and more feminine in character.

Buttons are smooth and mellow, and come as pre-formed discs that make dosing effortless, no chopping, no grating, no fuss.

Read our Which Ceremonial Cacao is right for you blog post.

Our cacao comes from small family farms that are part of a workers co-operative in Peru.

Grown to organic standards, using traditional agroforestry methods that support biodiversity.

Helping ensure fair income, sustainable farming, and community support.

Yes. All our cacao is tested and meets the requirements for UK/EU legislation.

Cadmium occurs naturally in soil and is present in trace amounts in most cacao worldwide. Research from WHO and FAO has found that cocoa products are actually a minor source of dietary cadmium compared to staple foods like grains, potatoes and vegetables.

It's simpler than you might think. Chop or weigh around 20g - 45g of ceremonial cacao. Heat water to around 80°C (hot but not boiling), pour it over the cacao, and whisk until smooth and frothy. Add a little honey, maple syrup, or your favourite sweetener if you like. That's it, your cacao elixir is ready. Check out our ceremonial cacao drink recipe.

All our cacao and other ingredients are actually certified organic at the point we buy them, but as we've not been through the costly certification process, we're unable to actively promote it as such. We typically use the "agrochemical free" wording, though sometimes do say grown to organic standards.
